Any ideas?
Michael and I both did not grow up in homes that did family home evening. WE are really trying to do this in our own family, but we just have no clue really what to do that includes the gospel that can involve two little girls. I know there are some of you with young families and others who had young families once. What do/did you do for family home evening? We are pretty clueless! Please send me your ideas! ALL OF THEM! :) Thanks sooo much for your help and input! We really do appreciate it!

Tanner likes to look throught the pictures in the front of the Book of Mormon while I tell him about the stories. Also, I try to reinact stories with his toys. We have a little people farmer guy who gets to play a lot of characters. We've done Daniel in the Lions' Den with a toy lion (it was really a tiger, but hey), Noah's ark with his little people farm animals, and a little bowl(boat) floating in a bigger bowl (sink might work) of water. His blocks for Samuel the Lamanite on a wall we built together. Stuff like that. They will of course be distracted by the toys, but absorb more than you think. Good luck!

The most important thing to know is to not expect to have an hour long FHE! The scripture readers are great and are pretty inexpensive. They have pictures and tell a story in 1 or 2 pages. They are also a worthwhile investment when your girls start to read. They are the first scriptures that my girls ever read out loud. Also, anything that is interactive works great. You friend Tacie had great ideas. I have learned that the important thing is to be consistent and just do it every week. Then they are looking for it because it is a given. It is music to my ears when my girls remind ME that it is FHE night.

When our kids were tiny - FHE was an opening song - usually a primary one which we sang every weeks for months, a prayer, a 3 minute lesson usually using pictures and actions and then of course a treat which can be just a mini candy bar or fruit or ice cream or whatever. You can add reading one verse out of the scriptures and let them repeat what you read one word at a time as you point to the word like they are reading. We always felt the big thing was being together as a family. Nature walks, games, pictures and stories of extended family are also fun. You can also get your hands on the new nursery manual for ideas.
Just stick with it - and it really helps.
We ordered the new nursery manual "Behold or Little Ones" from the distribution center at LdS.org It has perfect lessons for young ones and great pictures and activities. We sing songs. We let the kids pick the songs and it usually ends up being "The Wheels on the Bus" or "Itsy Bitsy Spider." Then of course a treat. The most important thing is spending the time together as a family.
